Former President Donald Trump said he is “beyond seriously” considering running again for president in 2024 during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, which aired Monday night.
Asked by Hannity whether he’s considering running again for the presidency, Trump said, “I am looking at it very seriously, beyond seriously” but added, “from a legal standpoint, I don’t really want to talk about it yet.”
Trump said 2024 is still a long way off, but said he believes there has been a rise in support for him since the 2020 election.
“There’s more popularity now than there was the day before the election because they see how bad things are at the border, they see what’s going on, they see that their guns are going to be gone, their second amendment, their taxes are going up, regulations are going through the roof, jobs are going to go out,” Trump said. “Wait until you see, this is going to take a little while to show, but if they add all of these regulations back, the jobs are going to be gone, your energy independence is going to be gone.”
Trump also discussed rallying support for the Republican Party going into the 2022 midterm elections.
“We are going to help with the House. I think we have a really good chance, I’m working with everybody, including [Republican House Minority Leader] Kevin McCarthy on taking back the house, I think we have a really good chance in doing it,” Trump said.
“I think we have a real chance at the Senate, I think we have a really, really good chance at the House,” Trump said.
Trump said, “If [candidates] need a rally, we’ll do a rally, we’ll do call, we’ll do all sorts of things, we’re all in.”
Trump said he would focus on campaigning both on behalf of House and Senate candidates, as well as governor races throughout the country.
The former president said the thing he misses most about the presidency is “helping people.”
“That’s why I did it,” Trump said. “Look this has been very traumatic, I had a great life, great company, great business, no problems and now all I do, people go after you. It’s vicious, it’s horrible, but you know what, I love doing it because I help people and I’ve helped them more than any president with the cutting of taxes, with the regulations.”
Trump touted tax cut legislation, “right to try” legislation to allow terminally ill patients to try non-FDA approved medicine and other regulation cuts.
“I’m very proud of what I did for the military,” Trump added. “I’ve rebuilt the military and I’ve added something called Space Force. It’s going to be so powerful, so important. Think of it, I’ve added to the military. Hasn’t happened since, I guess 75 years, since the Air Force.”
Trump’s comments about his presidency and his 2024 plans come amid speculation about who will run on the Republican presidential ticket in 2024. Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also taken questions about a potential 2024 presidential run. In a March interview, Pompeo said, “It’s way too early to tell, I’m very focused here on what we’re doing in the near term” but added, “I’m always up for a good fight.”
