Trump says he’ll visit US-Mexico border within weeks; slams Biden policies

Former President Donald Trump said during an interview on Fox News’ Justice with Judge Jeanine on Saturday that he would likely visit the southern U.S. border within a few weeks.

Trump told Pirro that “a lot of people want me to” visit the U.S.-Mexico border, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol officials, adding that he would visit “probably over the next couple of weeks.”

Trump went on to blast President Joe Biden’s illegal immigration policy, particularly his decision to undo the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocol, otherwise known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy. Trump called the move a destructive and “very bad decision.”

“Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak. And you’re going to have millions of people pouring into our country. And it’s going to destroy our country,” Trump told Pirro.

In order to get the overwhelming border crisis under control, Trump said Biden should reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy and finish the border wall.

“We’re not getting along with Mexico any longer. You have a great president of Mexico who was fantastic to me,” Trump said, noting that Mexico is “very angry at us.”

Biden has not visited the southern border amid a growing illegal immigration crisis that is on track to reach the highest rate in 20 years, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In response to Trump’s plan to travel to the border, Biden said over the weekend, “I don’t care what the other guy does.”

Last week, Trump said Biden was causing “death and human tragedy” with his policy decisions on the border.

“We proudly handed the Biden Administration the most secure border in history,” Trump’s statement read. “All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot.  Instead, in the span of a just few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster. They are in way over their heads and taking on water fast.”

On Thursday during his first press conference since taking office, Biden blamed Mexico for the influx of illegal immigrant families.

When asked why some families are not being sent back across the U.S.-Mexico border, Biden said, “Because Mexico is refusing to take them back. They’re saying they won’t take them back. Not all of them.”

“We’re in negotiations with the president of Mexico. I think we’re going to see that change. They should all be going back,” Biden added.

Before Biden’s press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the Biden administration’s immigration policies were responsible for the surge of migrants making their way across the border.

“Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants,” Lopez Obrador said at a press conference. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”
